Winter Reset : My Office

Winter Reset : My Office

My Office is part of our mudroom, located off the kitchen - the most hardworking room in our house.   For the Winter Reset, I needed to clear out the piles of old samples from my desk and last year's swatches from my inspiration boards.

My office feels like an extension of my brain.  When this room is scattered and hectic, I feel scattered and hectic.  There are certain parts of our home that are the same - our refrigerator, my closet, laundry and my office.  When those areas are out of whack, everything feels overwhelming.  When they are cleaned out and kept?  I feel so much more able to do all of the big things.  I used to be high functioning in clutter, but as I've grown, I really need more of a clean slate to let my brain run free.  Maybe I'm not as creative now?  Or maybe I have a higher standard for sanity?  Maybe now I value peace more than productivity?  Probably yes.

To-do list for the office :

  • Clear Inspiration Boards
  • Declutter Desk
  • Reorganize Drawers
  • Clean Rugs
  • Wipe down woodwork, walls & cabinetry
  • Refresh Powder Room
  • Clear bench + add potted flowers

Last year we repainted this room (paint details below), so I did more of a big overhaul then.  This year the room just needed resetting, decluttering and a very deep clean (thanks, Bing).

It is also Bing's room with a doggy door, his giant dog bed, food and water.  We love this setup for him because we can close this room off from the rest of the house via dutch door (photo below).  So, when we aren't home, this is his space and he can come in and out as he pleases without being able to get into the rest of the house (and track mud everywhere).  There is a lot of dirt in here, but I'm sort of messy, too, so the partnership seems to work.

All new inspo.

It feels so good to have the boards reset for the year.   They feature snips from each collection while I plan and design. I love having the entire year laid out this way so I can see how they flow one season to the other.  As you can see the Spring and Summer boards are full as those designs have been submitted for production (some details below).  I'll continue to add to the Fall & Holiday boards over the next couple of weeks.

This is our Spring Collection that will come out in a few weeks.  We have three new wrapping papers, Easter Tags, classic Ticking Stripe table linens and pillows, jadeite pieces and so much new art (part of a new business plan - excited about this!).  As you can see the color palette, is a buttery yellow with touches of brown, and soft jadeite.  I'll share more details soon.  Can't wait to set some spring tables full of daffodils and tulips.

I cleared this bench (that used to be filled with piles of returns), and brought it back to life with pots of Hellebore and some daffodils for forcing.  So nice to bring some real life in here again!

I treat Hellebore like orchids in my house - they stay in bloom forever.  Their blooms could be a study of color theory - so neutral from afar, but up close a mix of greens, pinks, yellow and white.  I will plant them in the ground in the summer, but I haven't had much luck of rebloom.  I'm sure I'm putting them in the wrong spot.

The basket is a new addition for this room and is full of our block print pillow and linen samples.  Since we don't have a shop in our neighborhood any longer, I don't have access of our full inventory.  My plan is to put this in my car when I head out to our Lexington Workshop so I can swap and update throughout the season.

Notice how the sunlight illuminates the doghair on my chair.  That is part of the charm of this room - dog hair and dirt.

I just added our Carie Gold Petite Pillow and I love the scale for this chair.  I used to have one of our full-sized rectangle pillows here, but this works so well - and the Carie in this colorway is maybe my all time favorite.  I never get tired of it.  It feels rather springy right now... and it felt very fallish in the fall.  Signs of a good design.

A rebrand?!

This post seems to be packed with lots of big updates.  But this might be the biggest.  I'm considering a rebrand of the entire shop.  I've spent some time this winter doodling and brainstorming.  I'm still hashing out a final look, but I love this direction.

Of course, I will show you more of the process as I go.  I love branding work so this feels like a treat to spend my time doing and I'm trying not to rush it.  My favorite designs are when I sit with them for a while and revisit before making big decisions.

The Summer Board

The new designs will likely be ready for an early summer launch.  Highly inspired by our trip to East Hampton last year.  Will be a mix of blues (of course), soft gold and brown.  Block prints, papers and art.

The Fall Board is still coming together - but always love when we can repeat a design in a new color for the next season.  Browns, gold, terracotta and sage.

Bing in the worlds largest dog bed here.  It is sunbrella fabric and it washes up nicely.

I made the Inspiration Boards from foam insulation sheets + linen fabric (DIY post here).  Here is another that hangs over the dutch door and serves as central command with our at a glance Weekly Schedule, Grocery List and spot for notes (using our new short Stripe Tablet).

I added the Brass Name Plates that make them look official. Love those little touches.

Paint & Hardware :

Last winter we repainted this room in Farrow & Ball Mizzle (satin finish on all walls and trim).  After a full year, I can truly say that I still love it.  It is fresh and happy without being bright.  The color is fun without being too much.  I love how it looks with my oatmeal linen chair, (my favorite) sisal rugs and baskets (from target).  For hardware, I selected an Unlacquered Brass finish and found the best (affordable!) option here. I went with a very petite 1″ oval knob and classic cup pulls.

I already shared our reset Pantry Tour a few weeks ago, that is also part of this very hardworking room.

Ok!  Another area of our house checked off.  Next I'll be sharing our Bathroom Reset.  It took a little longer than I expected because we had some bigger projects in there (wall repair faucet replacement, sconce shades that took three rounds to get right...).  Thanks for following along - and most importantly - keeping me accountable.  I feel like since I promised you all I would do this, I can't just not do it.  It is feeling really good having all of these areas refreshed and updated again.  And a lot of work.  How are your spaces coming?
